The Institute of Architecture and Urbanism (IAU-USP) is one of the teaching, research and extension units of the University of São Paulo (USP), a public and world-class institution that today integrates a select group recognized by different international rankings. USP occupies the 71st. in Ranking SIR “for All regions and countries” and 1st in Ranking SIR “Latin America” (SCImago Institutions Rankings) .
The IAU-USP is part of the São Carlos campus, along with 4 other units: School of Engineering, Institute of Physics, Institute of Chemistry and Institute of Mathematical Sciences and Computation. The Architecture and Urbanism Courses at USP (Campus São Paulo and São Carlos), for the excellence of its activities, are highlighted in several rankings, among them, achieving the 35th position in the QS World University Ranking by Subject 2017: Architecture/Built Environment.
The Postgraduate Program in Architecture and Urbanism was created in 1971 with a pioneering master’s degree in construction industrialization in Brazil, and the PhD program started in 2003. Throughout the Program’s history, 595 Master’s Dissertations and 124 PhDs have been completed.
Nowadays, there are 38 teachers, 216 undergraduate students and 170 postgraduate students in the IAU-USP. Its infrastructure includes some laboratories: models and mockups, civil construction, environmental comfort, digital manufacturing and digital free drawing; as well as a digital production center.
